From Clermont With Love

Back on August 13th, I was thrilled to be selected as one of 50 local artists for a truly special community project: reimagining a piece of Clermont’s history. We were invited to dive into the town’s historical archives, pick out a vintage photograph, and breathe new life into it through our own artistic lens. The finished works were acquired by the city to be auctioned off and featured on postcards, helping raise funds for local initiatives.
With a tight three-week deadline, I cleared off the studio desk and got straight to work. Honestly, it was the exact kind of challenge I live for. There is something about old, grainy, sun-faded photographs—the stories of the past just waiting to be told in color. Translating that timeless nostalgia onto the canvas is intricate, messy work, and I loved every single minute of it.
The moment I spotted the original photograph in the archives, I felt an immediate connection to the people and the story behind it. Capturing a true slice of local history and recreation, the image transported me straight to a lazy, sun-soaked day on the lake—the quiet stillness of the glassy water, the bright Florida sun shimmering off the surface, and that classic, triumphant moment you feel a tug on the line. It became a reminder of simpler times, an invitation to slow down and enjoy the small moments.
If you follow me online, you know I usually share my process as I go. Keeping a lid on this one until the big reveal was tough! On September 13th, all 50 pieces were finally debuted to the public in front of Town Hall. Surrounded by an incredible turnout, live music, and so much local artistic talent, the atmosphere was unforgettable. I loved meeting all the wonderful artists that took part in this project and seeing the incredible talent that lives in this small community.
